This peculiar glossary comes from the recent 11^th Swiss Sculpture Exhibition in Bienne, but is much more interesting and entertaining than the overwhelming majority of exhibition catalogues. Its aim is to trace a map of artists and artist projects, mixed with cultural, geographical, biological, and historical entries. This system of cross-linking proves particularly useful for understanding an impressive number of artistic practices — and especially some utterly referential, overly cryptic projects. Just to give you the idea: “Autarchy” is preceded by “Atelier Van Lieshout”, “Matt Mullican” is followed by “Mushrooms”, “Nation” comes before the “New United States of America by Peter Coffin”, “RMB City by Cao Fei” is linked to “Second Life”, “Cultural Kiosk”, “Google Earth” and “Urbanism”.
